Cool Podcast!
From a composition point of view “Colonized mind” is indeed very overrated. Though similar in structure, it can’t keep up with material like “Joy in repetition” (much more subtle) or “War” (much more experimental).
Except for the messy overuse of vocal-effects “Lotusflow3r” doesn’t really offer anything new. The song material is mostly decent, spiced up with a lot of guitar work, which makes it at least much more enjoyable than the other releases of the last years.
Greetings

Well, I like it but I also think it’s a bit overrated. 3121, though very uneven, was way more diverse and “challenging”.
Colonized Mind still is one of the greatest Prince songs of the last 10 years or so.

Another very enjoyable podcast. I agree with alot of what you guys say, I don’t think The Morning After is dreadful, but not really album worthy. Love Like Jazz is the hidden gem on the album and Boom is the best track, love the sitar and tabla part and the backwards vocals.
I think the album is great but I don’t love it as much as you guys seem too. 8/10 for me.
Can’t wait for the MPLSound reveiw, now for me that’s the album I’ve been waiting for, 9/10.

The most enjoyable Prince album since One Nite Alone, the greatest since The Rainbow Children. According to me, ‘Crimson And Clover’ sounds better than ‘The Morning After’ on the album, it gives it a more psychedelic touch. Not a masterpiece as Sign O’ The Times in fact is, but still, the best record Prince released in the last 14 years.

OMG. i can’t believe no one mentioned this! Are all of you ok! lol I hope you guys are alright I hate when things like this happen. I had this happen to me a few times and its not pretty. lol But all is good and I hope you guys are the same. I look forward to hearing Captains opinions. Aww Captian, i hope it’s not as bad as I think it is! YOU’RE MY FAVORITE!
Come on guys, start cupcaking! Impress me with your accents or go talk about fashion and how deep Prince’s eye liner is! Hold hands , something! I want to hear all of you back on the 7th podcast!
I hope I hear MPLSound and Elixer and have all 4 of you back in podland!
I didn’t know there were 4 of you till I heard this one. I had mentality that there were 3 of you and I’ve been thinking that this whole time! Ha Ha! I’m so slided right now, but hope you stay committed and tell the truth on MPLS and Elixer!
Need more of those opinions to make me laugh!
Love you guys!
These are awesome podcasts!

I loved Lotusflow3r better than Elixer and MPLSound because I always connected with Prince’s newer work. His new stuff always intrests me because his style is even more funkier and more Xtra lovable (I’m aware of the typo!!!)
I don’t blame Prince for not putting The Morning After on the album, because it wouldn’t fit even though it’s a great song.
This album had no flaws whatsoever. 10/10

thanks for the comments everyone, keep ‘em coming
I still think ‘The Morning After’ is better than ‘A Colonized Mind’

Another very enjoyable podcast! Agreed with all positive reviews of the songs, I was waiting for someone to talk about the reverb effect in Colonised Mind, it sounds like the whole mix has reverb but only in the left, soooo cool! I think MC should listen to “the morning after” a little more, it’s better than a lot of the material on musicology, 3121 & Planet Earth, it reminds me of “teacher, teacher”. Can’t wait for the next one and The Rainbow Children!! I give the album 9.8/10

I’m with the Captain: “$” is the big song on Lotus for me. I dig the rock vibe that dominates so many of the tracks (and appreciate a thematic concept) but a Prince LP is only a Prince LP if it takes several crazy turns. That’s what made him great. Though I enjoyed 3121, I think these two discs take us on a more diverse “tour” through Princeland. “4ever”, well, it has such a sturdy, classic melody that I can’t ignore it. Though not as sweepingly anthemic as “Gold”, “4ever” reminds me of that track. I look forward to your next effort. Between you guys and the Freedom Train, I enjoy plenty of cool Prince conversation each month.

I’m with Cap. Morning After is great (as was Resolution IMHO)…Whats with the hate of 80’s era happy poppy prince. Great job on these podcasts. You should video them.

“The Morning After” is a great track. I’m one of the people who don’t care for Prince doing covers so to me the download of the album is the “real” version. I did burn a cd with “Crimson and Clover” tacked on the end as a bonus track. I also agree with the Captain regarding “$,” it is a terrific song. For me Lotusflow3r is his best since Emancipation (unlike you guys I love that album!)

Love this podcast guys - this is another great episode.
I am a huge fan of Lotusflow3r and I agree with MC that this is the greatest album since Gold Experience. And I agreee with all the praise for Boom - wonderful track.
I am not a website member, so I’ve not heard Morning After, but since this podcast I am intrigued to hear it!
Loving these discussions and loving your enthusiasm for the new material.
PS Captain, you always make me laugh!
