  1. Quite amusing! *;-)*

I agree with the black hole disaster right in the middle of this record.

“Dance 4 me” is just a nice catchy groove but far away from a real masterpiece. The same goes for “Valentina” and “Ol Skool Company”.

  2. Hmmmm, still not decided on MPLSound. I skip track 1 but it starts off really well with ‘Chocolate Box’ (which has really grown on me) and ‘Dance 4 Me’ are stand-outs and the last 2 songs are good too, it’s just the middle. I really like the slower songs too but not all together. ‘Better With Time’ sounds like a bland ‘Emancipation’ outtake but ‘U’re Gonna C Me’ is far better than the original (which I hate) and ‘Here’ has got a nice production.

As a whole album, it doens’t quite work for me. I miss the synths and x-rated lyrics of the original Minneapolis sound… ‘Automatic’, ‘DMSR’ etc.

On a side note, I’m incredibly disappointed in the website’s lack of exclusive content and the fact that the album’s promotion is non existent.

Great podcast. Keep up the funky work.

  3. Great review again fellas! However…got to disagree on Ol’Skool Company. Along with DAnce 4 Me + No More Candy, it is one of the best tracks on the album (if not THE best track). I love the sweeping, weird synth sound and the Camille vocal is spot on. It comes from the same camp as 3121 and Days of Wild for me! Overall, a decenbt album but I agree about the slow jams in the middle, they do tend to slow it all down a bit. I did expect the labum to be a bit more experimental (a la Lovesexy) but the arrangements and the electronic techniques he is using are fascinating and make each track relaly interesting to listen to in an in-depth way. Plus he has been able to update the classic MPLS sounds in interesting ways.Btw, I went to the 21 nights shows, and I would probably have throught the same as you all about the sample stes…but when u saw it live it was superb. It was like watching a mad genius at work in a laboratory!

  4. Oops, bad typing in my post…I agree with the comment above: what is going on with the website?! Why does it even exist at the moment? He is not posting any news or any unreleased tracks/videos. It seems like he had lots of intentions with it but it has just stalled (and then u get a completely random email telling u that the Undertaker ahs been posted! Great video but it was released years ago officially). All very odd…but hey, that’s Prince.

  5. Oh my God!! That was better than the first ones!! LOL! Great work guys! Say, did you here about the fake interview with Prince? I have a suggestion, why not talk about the recent public views he’s been making, like Jay Leno, and the recent 28 show of Jay Leno performance, and the idiocy donki-fied ‘Prince’ interview on the radio !! LOL! Alot of people still believe it’s Prince despite what Funkenberry said! LOL!

Well’ i’ll leave it up to you, for your next pod cast,

    I’ll be seeing you soon!

  6. Prince actually said when he released 3121 he was inspired to write a song about Salma after she directed the video for him…soooo this is the song he wrote….Valentina. Good job with the review I agree with most of what you guys said….Peace….

  7. another great show guys , i really thought of this album as a b-side full of tracks that couldnt make the album, turn me loose would of been good on here , & i totally agree with MC on ure gonna c me its very catchy & you will find yourself singing along with this one its very good compared to the original, i had to keep my comments short so im ganna just say if u put the morning after betwwen love like jazz & wall of berlin you got a 10 & for this one its a 8 , i saw that shimmy shake mc & i said “what the !”, also no more candy is a diss song IMO he ripped the twins , amy winehouse & haters on the internet OUCH!,i really want to hear about the jay leno show & your trip 2 the states , and can we get a bria review ? alot of good feedback im hearing from a few P fans & i cant wait for you all to kick this one around Peace LJ

  8. if Prince did something you’d be coming out, right guys? where is Prince anyway, the shirt never came at the begining of the month as promised, and Prince isn’t doing anything! i wonder what he is up too. hmmm….:)

  9. I can not wait to hear the Captain’s thoughts on Newpower Soul. Dude tells it like it is.

Like the Captain I’m really down on the middle of the album. They are not necessarily bad songs (well, maybe “Better With Time” is a bit crummy) but I think it’s a case of one ballad too many.

I totally agree that “Ol’ Skool Company” is vastly overrated. It’s an ok track but not a highlight.

Man, I’m right there with the Captain, “No More Candy 4 U” and “$” are the two best songs on the three discs. I do think that “No More Candy 4 U” is slightly undercooked or underproduced. It sounds a little too thin but it’s still a terrific song.

M.C. I am glad that you revised your rating. There is no way that MPLSoUND is a 9 or 9 1/2, I’d say it’s no higher than a six.
